Mozilla & Netscape 6.x Plain Text E-mail

This page is intended to describe setting up Mozilla & Netscape 6.x e-mail to use plain text. There are several example graphics to assist in the explanation. Note that there are several releases of Mozilla and Netscape 6.x so the graphics may not match exactly. However, they should be close to other versions. If the information on this page is not clear please e-mail the webmaster with a description of the problem.

Address Card - Sending Messages
Setting a general plain text preference for ALL e-mail.
Adding plain text domains.

Select "Edit" from the main menu then "Preferences..." from the drop down menu.

Click on the arrow by "Mail and Newsgroups" then select "Send Format".

Click the radio button by "Convert the message to plain text..." then click the Add... button to add domains that will receive only plain text messages. This will be the Jackson Mobilphone domains and any others needed.

Type in the "net2jmp.com" domain and click OK.

Click the Add... button to add another domain.

Type in the "jmp2net.com" domain and click OK.

Click OK to save your changes and close the "Preferences..." dialog box.


Setting up an Address Card in the Address Book
to use plain text when sending e-mail.

Choose "Tasks" on the menu bar then "Address Book" from the drop down menu.

Click the "New Card" button in the "Address Book" dialog window.

Type a name for the address in the "First:" field. Type a "Nickname:" to use to pull up the address when typed in the "To:" field of a message. Type either e-mail address for e-paging (pager@jmp2net.com or pager@net2jmp.com) in the "E-mail:" field. Then choose "Plain Text" from the drop down list beside "Prefers to receive messages formatted as:".

Click "OK" to close the dialog box and save the new address card.

The new Address Card is now saved in the "Address Book" for use whenever a page needs to be sent using Jackson Mobilphone's e-paging system.


Sending a message to a pager.

Start a new message using "File" then "New" then "Message". Start typing the "Nickname:" from the Address Card in the "To:" field. The address will be auto-completed as it is typed.

Type the pager number in the "Subject:" field.

Type the message to send. Then send it by clicking the "Send" button. Remember that message pagers take between 80 and 250 characters so keep messages short.
