Outlook Express Plain Text E-mail

This page is intended to describe setting up Outlook Express e-mail to use plain text. There are several example graphics to assist in the explanation. Note that there are several releases of Outlook Express so the graphics may not match exactly. However, they should be close to other versions. If the information on this page is not clear please e-mail the webmaster with a description of the problem.

Address Card - Sending Messages
Setting a general plain text preference for ALL e-mail.

Select "Tools" from the main menu then "Options..." from the drop down menu.

Click on the "Send" tab then under Mail Sending Format click the Radio Button beside "Plain Text".

Click "OK" to close the dialog box and save the changes.

Click on the "Addresses" [Address Book] button.

Click on the "New" button then select "New Contact..." to create an address.

Type a name for the address in the "First:" field. Type a "Nickname:" to use to pull up the address when typed in the "To:" field of a message. Type either e-mail address for e-paging (pager@jmp2net.com or pager@net2jmp.com ) in the "E-mail Addresses:" field. Then make sure "Send E-mail using plain text only" is checked. Then click "OK" to close the dialog and save the address.

The new address is now saved in the "Address Book" for use whenever a page needs to be sent using Jackson Mobilphone's e-paging system.

Start a new message by clicking the "New Mail" button.

Click the "To:" icon to pull up the "Select Recipients" dialog.

Click on the name of the address created for sending e-pages. Click the "To:->" button. Click "OK".

Type the Pager Number in the "Subject:" field.

Type the message to send. Then send it by clicking the "Send" button.
Remember that message pagers take between 80 and 250 characters so keep messages short.
